Mary Wood-Piazza, Principal

It is with great pride and excitement that I introduce myself as the newly appointed Principal of Q. I. Roberts Jr. Sr. High School for the 2016-2017 school year.  I possess over 27 years of experience in secondary education, with 15 years in administration. I am elated to bring my skills as an educational leader to your son/daughter’s school and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child’s success.

Along with my staff, I will work hard to build a legacy of success at Q. I. Roberts.  Strong relationships between parents, students, staff, and community members will provide our students the best possible opportunities to prepare them to master the challenges of college and the 21st Century.  Here are some of the goal for Q. I. Roberts.

  • Cultivate reasonable grading practices. Proper grading doesn’t foster procrastination, but instead promotes responsibility.  Responsibility and time management must be developed and encouraged through structures.  Although some students will do what they should naturally, others need motivation and guidance.  A partnership between our new guidance counselor, parents, and teachers will ensure students are given every opportunity to develop self-responsibility.
  • Foster the school climate. We have a wonderful school with very intelligent teachers and students.  Our students out-perform their Cambridge peers, surpassing the state average scores on AICE Examinations. We have a Florida School Grade of “A.”  All this achievement is well and good, but it’s also important that everyone (students, staff, parents, and community) feels valued and welcome when they walk through our doors or call on the phone.  As Principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to stop in or call to make an appointment to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas.
  • Involve community leaders, businesses, and organizations to provide rich, experiential opportunities for our students in a real-world context.
  • Increase acceleration opportunities & elective options.  We will be expanding both our AICE offerings and on campus dual enrollment selections. Many students have voiced the desire for more elective options.  We will be phasing in some enjoyable new electives like Chorus, Yearbook-for upper level students, and PE.

Students will be invited to serve as a Class Representative and/or on the Principal’s Advisory Council. Students who respond will be able to help administration plan and organize events and policies at the school.
